In fact there is a second national park within easy driving distance - the "Parc Naturel des Volcans". Both parks are served by information centres, where experienced staff are on hand to help you locate items of special interest in these beautiful, unspoilt areas.

The Massif Central is an extremely spacious and diverse region, ideal for all types of holiday. Wonderfully unspoilt, it has almost everything. Here you can explore the majestic scenery of volcanoes long extinct, lush green valleys, sparkling rivers, silent lakes. You can hike, hire a bicycle, go by horse or kayak, even by hot-air balloon. A land of history, with it's superb Romanesque churches, fine Chateaux and elegant Spar Towns, where you can sample the world-famous waters -Vichy, Volvic etc. Auvergne throbs with fetes and festivals of every kind. Half-timbered buildings, Romanesque churches, the best furnished chateau in France are all to be found in the region. On the high summer pastures seek out the many "burons" or "jaseries" where farmers have produced traditional cheeses for centuries. | Follow the "Route des Metiers" - ( Craft Road ) and find craftsmen and women waiting in their workshops to demonstrate their ancient skills. Cheese making, bee keeping, pottery, fois gras and knife making are all included in the list of over 40 diverse establishments which welcome the visitor. When you have completed this tour, follow the Route of the Cheeses or Route of the Chateaux. |
